Despite opposition leader Raila Odinga's assurance that there would be no property destruction, the Azimio Tuesday protests were marred by chaos.
A bus was set on fire on Ngong Road, while protestors momentarily blocked a part of Mombasa Road near the Imara Daima outbound turn-off.
Protesters who ignited bonfires and barricaded roads in Kibra clashed with riot police who attempted to restore calm.
Residents in Migori and Kisumu counties took to the streets to protest the high cost of living.
The government has outlawed the protests stating they have been symptomatic of intolerable trend of criminal occurrences including wanton destruction of property, arson, robbery, looting, injury to cops and the death of a police officer.
Raila Odinga, the opposition leader, stated on Monday that the coalition would only send memoranda to the Office of the President, the National Treasury, the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC), and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
"I want to assure you that there will be no property destruction because our demonstration will be peaceful," he declared during a press conference on Monday afternoon.
Attempts by a group of Azimio MPs led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to present a petition to the President's Office were unsuccessful.
