Beneath the Fame - Nancy Leaduma (Radio Presenter)


Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?

My name's Nancy Leaduma, a journalism graduate from multimedia university of Kenya, currently working as a radio presenter at Mchungaji radio in Maralal.

How did you get started in your career?

I started off as an intern at a local community radio station (serian FM) in maralal where I built a brand by the name ndung'oret ee lmejooli hence getting contracted by Mchungaji radio since then.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

My brand Ndung'oret ee lmejooli getting recognized and appreciated by my audience has been the highlight of my career.

What are some of the challenges you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

Penetrating through the media world is a nutshell especially if you want to get to the bigger fish but I've learnt to take a step at a time until I reach where I want to be.

Are there any particular projects or roles that have been especially meaningful to you?

Yes. Being a voice, informant, educator of the people has been very meaningful to me especially since my passion of serving the community is impeccable.

What is your biggest accomplishment that you're most proud of?

Serving the community through my journalism and getting love and appreciation from them have been one of my proudest accomplishments so far.

Who or what has been your biggest inspiration?

I'm inspired by all the great Maa women who've made it big.

What keeps you motivated in your work?

The younger me. When I think of how I might be inspiring my younger individuals, I refuse to give up and that gives me fuel to even work harder.

How do you handle criticism and setbacks?

I try to improve on things I'm not good at and work on my weak points. Everyone handles setbacks quite differently and when I have them, I pause, think then find a way around them before moving on forward.

How do you balance your personal life with your career?

I've managed to keep my personal life as private as I could and separating it from the outside world has kept me going and away from frustrating drama.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Watching movies, sleeping 😅 and definitely spending time with my daughter 💕.

Is there a particular hobby or interest that you enjoy outside of your work?

Yes. Sleep 😜

What advice would you give to aspiring individuals who want to pursue a career similar to yours?

Be a go getter. Be tough. And finally have patience in you.

What upcoming projects or ventures are you excited about?

I'm excited about the future. It's full of surprises and that's why it's interesting.

Where do you see yourself in the future, both personally and professionally?

I see myself as an accomplished happy individual 🥰

Favorite book/movie/song?

I'd watch, read and listen to anything interesting and it'd be my favourite

Best piece of advice you've ever received?

Be yourself.

One thing you can't live without?

Air of course 🤣

Any hidden talents or surprising facts about yourself?
