Immediately after a Malindi court released them, Malindi preacher Paul Mackenize and his eight associates were rearrested on Tuesday.
Mackenzie appeared before Malindi Principal Magistrate Ivy Wasike, where Senior State Counsel Vivian Kambak

a asked for the case to be closed. He is accused of influencing his followers to starve to death in order to meet Jesus and his associates.
However, police officers, including paramilitary General Service Unit officers, were waiting for him at the basement, and they could not taste any freedom. They were once again arrested and packed them into waiting police vans.
In accordance with the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Kambaka informed the court that the prosecution planned to file charges against the suspects at Shanzu in Mombasa County's counterterrorism court.
The prosecution requested the closure of the miscellaneous file where Mackenzie and the others had been given a 14-day detention order while official charges were awaited.
Exhumations and postmortem examinations were still being done, and early investigations had shown that the suspects might be charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Kambaka described the ongoing investigations as complicated.
In place of the victims, a lawyer from the Law Society of Kenya supported the prosecution's request.
