10 Killed, Several Missing as Old Kijabe Dam Bursts.

In Kamchiri village in Maai Mahiu, Naivasha, the walls of a dam fell on Monday morning, displacing over fifteen families and resulting in at least 10 verified deaths.Samuel Ndanyi, the commander of Nakuru County police, announced on Monday that search and rescue efforts were in progress and that at least ten bodies had been found.Locals say that "many people" are still missing, therefore there are worries that the death toll might go up.As the search and rescue effort continues, the police chief also acknowledged that there might be more persons stuck in the mud. 

"A dam in Old Kijabe ruptured, rushing over a portion of Mai Mahiu town in Naivasha, prompting the start of a search and rescue operation. Early on Monday morning, the dam broke its banks, allowing the torrents to sweep away many houses. According to Mr. Ndanyi, "many others have also been hurried to the hospital."More than ten houses in the neighborhood were washed away by the rushing water, a resident told the Nation.Fearful of being stuck in the black muck are dozens of people, youngsters included.At least fifteen individuals had been pulled from the mud and taken to Naivasha Sub County Hospital by nine in the morning.
