Kenya Names New Chief of Defence Forces Following Tragic Incident



In the wake of a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of General Francis Ogolla, Kenya's military has swiftly appointed a new leader. Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lt Gen Charles Muriu Kahariri has been promoted to the prestigious rank of general and bestowed with the title of Chief of Defence Forces. President William Ruto has promoted Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the rank of General and appointed him the Chief of the Defence Forces.

This following the demise of the former Chief of Defense Forces the late General Francis Ogolla who died in a helicopter crash at Elgeyo Marakwet on 18th of April 2024 alongside nine others.

With this promotion, General Kahariri steps into the shoes of his late predecessor, assuming the highest position within Kenya's defence forces. His elevation to a four-star general underscores the trust and confidence placed in him to lead the nation's military with distinction and honor.

The passing of General Ogolla in the helicopter accident has undoubtedly left a void in Kenya's military leadership. However, the swift appointment of General Kahariri reflects the government's commitment to maintaining stability and continuity within the armed forces during challenging times.
