Junior secondary school teachers in Samburu county are now willing to down their tools if their needs are not met by the teachers service commission in the county.
This comes after several complaints from the teachers that they are not receiving enough stipends as compared to the workload in various learning institutions. The teachers have complained that they are not being taken seriously and that their workforce is not respected as it should by the director and chairperson of the teachers service commission Nancy Macharia. These teachers from Samburu county are now asking Nancy Macharia to step down since her being in office is robbing them off their financial freedom.
During a meeting with the media in the county the teachers have explained that despite them working under harsh environmental conditions the stipend they receive is not able to sustain their needs especially during the tough economic situation. According to the KUPPET secretary General in samburu William Lenguyap, the judiciary of Kenya had made a clear decision that teachers who teach in junior secondary schools be converted into permanent and pensionable terms.
"We want to tell them that we do not trust these system, we do not trust your promises because your promises have failed before. We want to return to class with our PNP letters confirmation letters failure to that we are not reporting to class"
The teachers are now asking their boss Nancy Macharia to give them permanent terms otherwise its best if she step out of office so that there can be a clear understanding between the junior secondary school teachers in Samburu and the officials from the teachers service commission (TSC).
"Teachers have been going through frustration all her time in office. I believe from my own conscious that Nancy Macharia it's time to just pack and let other persons occupy that office because we cannot have frustrations of these kind policies that are demining to teachers"
It is therefore a wait and see situation as schools are yet to open on Monday 6th as per the directives from the ministry of education in the country.
